Indonesia . Days 4-5

June 24, 2012

We took the ferry over to Bintan Island so we could spend a few days at the Club Med Resort in Indonesia.  Mike was smart to spend a little extra to get the priority seat tickets which allowed us to wait in the air conditioned priority area and sit on the second floor of the ferry in nicer assigned seats.  We were the last ones on the ferry and the first ones off which meant we went through customs first.  The terminal in Indonesia was quite a place - not the kind of place you want to spend a whole lot of time.  For the first time in my life I truly felt like I was in a third world country.  It was dirty and quite disgusting.  Even the bus that took us to our Resort was a little run down and dirty.  It was like a whole new world when we arrived at our Resort.  We were greated by so many people and the views of the ocean were quite incredible.  The grounds at Club Med far surpassed anything I had ever seen or ever been to.  The pool alone was spectacular and the beach....well, let's just say it was a bit unreal with it's super fine white sand, palm trees, many open beach chairs with beautiful canopies, and not a soul in sight.  The beach was not crowded with a bunch of random people but was private only to Club Med people.  It was clean and absolutely perfect and only a short walk down the path from where we were staying.  We had three bedrooms which meant everyone had their own bed.  The girl's room connected to ours and the boys room was right next door.  The boys loved being able to have their own room and their own key.  Even the rooms felt like we were in paradise.  Everyone loved their towel animals on the first day.

We headed to the pool right away to cool down.  We had so much fun hanging out in the pool.  Just like on our cruise, Mike arranged for me to get a massage the first day.  He took the kids to the beach to play while I had 90 minutes of total relaxation.  He is so good to me.  The massage rooms were all down the boardwalk and right on the water.  I could actually hear the water hit against the rocks while I was getting a massage.  It was pretty amazing.  The first day was like a dream.

The boys got up with Mike and went on a snorkeling excursion.   They had fun snorkeling and saw lots of fish but the water was a bit murky where they were.  Still, they had a great time.  While the boys were out the girls and I went to the pool to play.  We later met up and spent the rest of the day on the beach playing.  It was the most beautiful beach we had ever been to.  The sand felt like powdered sugar and there was this little lagoon area that the kids loved playing in.  It was completely deserted and for most of the morning we were the only ones on the beach.  We played until the clouds rolled in and we experienced our first afternoon thunderstorm in Indonesia.  It was usually a daily occurence to have an afternoon storm.  After it was over the sun came out and it was beautiful once again.  We spent the rest of the day at the pool.  With everything inclusive at this resort it felt like we were on our cruise again.  Food and drinks were all free and the kids loved hanging out in the Kids Corner ordering fun fruity drinks. Tonight's dinner was a white dinner set up by the pool.  Everyone was wearing white and the food was a plenty.  We got to meet lots of interesting people from all over the world and eat lots of good food.
