A Friday Harbor Birthday

Today we hopped onto the interisland ferry to go and visit Friday Harbor. Since we walked on the ferry we didn't have our car on the other end so we walked around the harbor exploring all of the little shops and museums. We finally got hot and stopped to get some ice-cream. We sat by the harbor and listened to a jazz band that was playing right by the water. The cool thing about it was that the band consisted of men and women between the ages of 55-70. They were dang good and the lady that sang was so awesome. The kids enjoyed some downtime on the shaded hill playing "walk like a crab." Our time was running short so we hailed a shuttle to take us to Lime Kiln State Park on the other side of the island so that we could "try" and spot the whales. We got there around 4:45pm and made the fun little hike down to the lighthouse where we could see some spectators with their binoculars. Unfortunately, we were a bit too late because the whales had already been spotted at 3:30pm. The view was spectacular and I didn't care much that we weren't able to see the whales. Maybe another time! Our shuttle man came back for us and drove us back to the ferry just in time to board and head back to Orcas Island for our last night stay. We ate at a great Italian Restaurant to celebrate Mike's birthday and boy did it taste so good. I think he would agree that our trip to the Islands was superb. Oh how I will miss this beautiful place when we move away from Washington. Good Bye beautiful Islands...until next time!
