New Zealand Cruise . Day 8 . Wellington

Everyone told us about how awesome Auckland was, and it was pretty, but Wellington is the city that sold me on New Zealand.  What a stunning town and harbor.  The cruise ship was docked on the far side of town past the Rugby stadium, so we had to walk into town.  It was a very pleasant day and we stopped at a really cool park with a 4 story slide.  The kids had some serious speed coming down that thing.  Clearly there are not as many lawyers in New Zealand.  We headed to Te Papa, the National Museum.  It was WAY cooler than I could have imagined.  Truly a must see in New Zealand.  The museum was awesome with lots of stuff about the people, marine life, botanical life, science, and so forth.  The exhibits were totally great (very state of the art) and the outdoor stuff was phenomenal.  This place definitely blew the pants off any of our museums back in DC.  They had some cool rides in there as well, so the kids had a good time getting jostled around on some exciting virtual reality rides.  I could have spent a couple of days in there, but we spent just the morning and then had lunch in the museum cafeteria.

After lunch, we headed up to the Botanical Gardens.  We took the cable car to the top of the hill and then decided to follow a very cool walk all the way back down into the city.  We stopped and played at a playground for about an hour.  The hike down was through all these different types of gardens that were just beautiful.  It was fun to follow the painted flowers marking our way down.  The Botanical Gardens in Sydney were impressive, but this place was killer.  It was totally awesome to have a garden like that right in the middle of the city.  At the bottom of the gardens was a beautiful rose garden (yes, we stopped and smelled the roses).  The aroma from some of them smelled like candy.  It was so fun. After the gardens, we went by the capital and then hurried back to the ship.  Wellington is a place you could spend many fun days.  Why does New Zealand have to be so far away?
