Kyoto Day 1 . The Shinkansen

Last year we stopped in Kyoto on our way back from our long drive down to the southern part of the Japan.  We only had time to visit one shrine before continuing on home.  We weren't quite sure we would have another chance to visit Kyoto again and seeing as Kyoto is the city of many shrines we weren't quite sure we wanted to take the kids with us either.   With a little planning we were finally able to leave our kids with a trusted babysitter so Mike and I could explore Kyoto together.  We took the Shinkansen from Yokohama all the way to Kyoto.  It was quite the ride.  We had the most spectacular view of Mt. Fuji on the way and enjoyed eating the yummy Japanase treats we bought ahead of time.  It was just so nice to be spending time alone with Mike.  We got into Kyoto a little before dinner and after checking into our hotel at the Hyatt Regency we headed into Pontocho in the Gion district to find some dinner.  We walked down some really neat alleys lined with traditional Japanese restaurants but ended up finding a great Indian restaurant to eat at.  It was a beautiful night and we just enjoyed being together.
